jib sheet travellers

the guys who owned the boate before us took a lot of things apart, and then forgot to put them back together again. a couple of these things were the port and starboard jib sheet traveller tracks. i think they probably dropped one in the marina, and decided not to put the other one on. today i cut the remaining one in half and put 44" on each side. we're back in business.

demasted

well the boate dropped her mast today. steen and i rigged up a pulley with parts from the main sheet assembly and lowered her down. steen was worried that the rope we had lashed around the base of the mast would not hold, and i foolishly and stubbornly disagreed. steen was proven right when the lashing broke and the mast came down pretty hard for the last 6 feet or so to the deck, causing a small dent in the stern railing. all of the standing rigging looks to be in good shape, the halyard rollers need some work, and the foot is pretty much a basket case that is corrosion-welded to the mast. it does not look like we’ll be making it to fleet week next weekend.

good to be back aboard

the boate is going to lower her mast tomorrow for repairs to the tabernacle, and i went down and prepped for the occasion. while there i did a little custom work to the old nameplate, tinkered with the electrical system, and otherwise had a pretty chill day.
