reefing underway

i sailed over to and up through racoon strait with al today. we decided to make a foray out the golden gate, but the breeze was pretty fresh, so i decided to reef the main (pull the sail about halfway down the mast and secure it to the boom in order to decrease the cloth area) while underway. it was much less difficult than i thought it was going to be. it was good to get out past the gate with some good wind and gentle swells, and shake some of the barnacles of winter off the hull. i forgot my camera, so you'll have to take my word that spring is here, and the bay is looking beautiful (if you overlook the flotsam washed in by the rains that hasn't yet blown out to sea. think paint cans and telephone poles).
