painter of wind

ok we're behind on our posting here at the boate. steen and i took jackie von treskow out on saturday, for an excellently amusing day on the bay. jackie at one point declared steen the "thomas kinkade of sailing". (this after steen drew several corny metaphysical parallels between himself and the wind).
the perfect day concluded with steen sailing the boate into the slip, and captain eric hoisting the jib halyard halfway up the mast before realizing it was going to be difficult to get it back without a downhaul. photos here

'tis true. steen masters the wind much like mr. kinkade masters the light. kind of.

the competition was intense. who could harness the wind much as a jockey guides his blue-blood thoroughbred?

after a particularly potent dark & stormy (damn was that good), and an equally intoxicating sunset, i came to the swift conclusion that both steen and eric are masters of their craft. literally.

i leave you, my darlings, with this. thank you for a truly wonderful day.

"a smooth sea never made a skillful mariner, neither do uninterrupted prosperity and success qualify for usefulness and happiness. the storms of adversity, like those of the ocean, rouse the faculties, and excite the invention, prudence, skill and fortitude of the voyager."
