the first entry

well, today the captain's log begins, although it won't officially begin until the rechristening of the boate formerly known as alpha. we went out for a brief half hour sail with the now former owners, out past the breakwater and to about the end of walking part of the berkeley pier. there was a good breeze out, the bay was a bit choppy, and all in all the sail left me wanting more. in fact, i may have called captain steen a big pussy for not wanting to take her back out after we had paid for and received title. actually, today's voyage began earlier, with the spontaneous naming and subsequent purchase of the domain name theboate.com....yes, we had to check to for the domain name before we could settle finally on the vessel's name. (that's a typo, the "check to for the....", but it seems to work in a nautical context. salty language usually has a number of superfluous prepositions peppering the verbs). ok, now for some pictures.

captain steen uses his vhf instincts to determine that the weather is inclement for an additional sunset cruise.
